Frequently asked questions.

What is a public adjuster?

A public adjuster is a professional who represents policyholders in negotiating insurance claims with their insurance companies. They are licensed and regulated by the state in which they operate.

Should I hire a public adjuster?

With our claim expertise and experience documenting, presenting, and negotiating settlements, a public adjuster can be a great way to help ensure that you receive a fair and accurate settlement from your insurance company. However every claim is different and, while everyone should seek help with their claim, a public adjuster isn’t the only or even the best option for every claim. At Waypoint, we pride ourselves on our commitment to finding the best option for everyone that comes to us to help even if we’re not it.

How much does it cost to hire a public adjuster?

Most public adjusters charge a percentage of the total settlement amount they negotiate on your behalf. This percentage can vary based on the size of the claim and where you are in the process, but it is typically between 10-30%.

When should I hire a public adjuster?

It is generally best to hire a public adjuster as soon as possible after experiencing a loss. This will allow us to properly document the damage and help start your claim off on the right foot and because we’re involved from the very beginning we can sign your claim at a lower percentage.

Can a public adjuster help me if I've already filed a claim with my insurance company?

Yes, a public adjuster can still be of assistance even if you have already filed a claim with your insurance company. It’s rare for a claim to not have errors and even rarer for those errors to benefit of the policyholder. If you feel your claim has been underpaid we can review your claim for opportunities to improve your settlement even if you’ve already received one.

Will hiring a public adjuster guarantee that I'll get a higher settlement?

While we cannot guarantee a specific settlement amount, we do guarantee our work.
This means, if we are unable to secure a higher settlement for you, we do not charge any fees for our services. We carefully assess each claim and only represent people who either have already been substantially underpaid by their insurance company or who have a high potential for being underpaid. Our goal is to maximize your insurance payout and ensure that you receive a fair and accurate settlement.
